Kendrick Lamar sweeps at the 2025 Grammy Awards, taking home five Grammys, including “Record of the Year” and “Song of The Year” for his explosive rap anthem “Not Like Us.”

The accomplishment cemented his status as one of hip-hop’s most formidable voices, as the track became a defining moment in his ongoing lyrical battle with Drake. The 6 God did not comment on his rival’s Grammy sweep yet.

During his acceptance speech, Lamar, who is also set to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl, paid tribute to Compton and his longtime collaborator, Mustard. He reflected on the city’s influence on his artistry, calling it the place that shaped him as a lyricist.

“This is my neck of the woods, the one that held me down since I was a young pup,” he said. “Since I was in the studio scrapping to write the best raps. I can’t give enough thanks to the places I rolled around in since high school.”

He also gave a nod to families in the Palisades and Altadena, vowing to continue uplifting his community.

The Record of the Year category was stacked with competition. Nominees included Now and Then by The Beatles, Texas Hold ‘Em by Beyoncé, Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter, 360 by Charli XCX, Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish, Good Luck, Babe! by Chappell Roan, and Fortnight by Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone.

“Not Like Us” stood out not only for its infectious energy but also for its sharp-edged lyrics aimed directly at Drake. Lamar pulled no punches, calling out the rapper with lines like, “Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophiles,” a direct shot at Drake’s 2021 album Certified Lover Boy. Later in the track, he raps, “Your homeboy need subpoena, that predator move in flocks,” doubling down on accusations that sent shockwaves through hip-hop.

Kendrick Lamar first performed “Not Like Us” live at his 2024 Juneteenth concert in Los Angeles, delivering it five times in a row to an electrified crowd. “Y’all ain’t gonna let nobody disrespect the West Coast, huh?” he asked, referencing Drake’s Taylor Made Freestyle, which used AI-generated versions of Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur’s voices.

With 19 Grammy wins and 57 nominations throughout his career, Lamar continues to shape the landscape of hip-hop. This year, he also earned nominations for Best Music Video, Best Rap Song, and Song of the Year, proving his influence remains as powerful as ever.
