Billboard announced that GNX, Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The LP is Lamar’s fifth consecutive project to earn the distinction. Previously, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers (2022), DAMN. (2017), Untitled Unmastered (2016) and To Pimp a Butterfly (2015) all topped the chart.

The surprise album moved 319,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 28, according to Luminate, marking the sixth-largest debut this year. In its opening week, GNX was also the year’s third-biggest streaming week for any album.

Additionally,  7 of this week’s top 10 songs from the GNX album. “Squabble Up” is currently the No. 1 song on the Hot 100 chart, keeping Shaboozey from setting the record of 20 weeks at number 1 with “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”

Amazingly, the top 5 of the Hot 100 are all from the acclaimed album.

Released on November 22, and titled after the rare Buick Regal model car, the album is Kendrick’s first since departing from Top Dawg Entertainment and Aftermath Entertainment.

Long-time collaborator Sounwave handles most of the production along with contributions from Jack Antonoff, Mustard, Sean Momberger, and Kamasi Washington.

2024 has been an incredible year for Kendrick. In May, “Not Like Us” in May, his scathing diss track aimed at Drake broke several records.  “Like That” with Future and Metro Boomin also went to number one in April.

In September, it was announced that Kendrick Lamar would headline the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show.
