Khalid has remained composed amidst recent controversy, brushing off drama sparked by his ex’s since-deleted social media post.
The incident, which included a public outing of the multi-platinum artist, drew backlash and an eventual apology from Hugo Almonte, Khalid’s former partner.
In a statement shared via Instagram Stories, Almonte expressed regret for his actions, acknowledging the harm caused. “I understand why people are upset, and I take full responsibility for my actions. I made a serious mistake. I outed someone, and that was wrong. No matter the circumstances, it wasn’t my place to reveal something so personal. For that, I am truly sorry,” he wrote.
He added that his actions stemmed from “deep pain and frustration,” referencing an earlier post where he had unleashed a heated rant.
Khalid, however, met the situation with characteristic calm. Responding with a brief, “There y’all go. Next topic, please lol,” accompanied by a rainbow flag emoji, he later elaborated. “I got outed, and the world continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao). I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality, it ain’t nobody’s business! I am okay with me, love y’all.” The singer made it clear he had never hidden his identity but felt no obligation to publicly discuss his sexuality, emphasizing his right to privacy.
Fans flooded Khalid’s posts with support, many admitting they had long suspected his orientation but appreciated his unapologetic response. His openness aligns him with other prominent LGBTQ+ artists such as Lil Nas X, Kehlani, and Sam Smith, all of whom have redefined representation within the music industry.
Khalid’s career has been marked by both critical acclaim and commercial success. From his breakout hit “Location,” which catapulted him into the global spotlight, to collaborations with stars like Billie Eilish, Halsey, and Future, he has become one of the most streamed artists of his generation.
Despite the recent personal upheaval, Khalid remains focused on his music and his connection with fans, continuing to chart his course as one of contemporary music’s most versatile and beloved voices.
