Killer Mike is taking legal action against the private security firms involved in his arrest at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
The Atlanta rapper, who won three Grammys that night, was detained by security and later arrested by the LAPD for misdemeanor battery while attempting to access the red carpet. He was released hours later. Now, he has filed a lawsuit against S&S Labor Force, Inc. and JRM Private Security, accusing them of false arrest, assault, and battery. The suit argues they had no legal authority to detain him and no valid reason to suspect him of wrongdoing.
According to the lawsuit, security ignored Mike’s repeated attempts to identify himself and explain his need to enter the restricted area for scheduled media appearances. When he tried to leave, the suit alleges, guards physically restrained him, grabbing his arm and preventing him from moving.
The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office later declined to press charges, effectively acknowledging Mike had committed no crime. The lawsuit claims security personnel either knew or should have known there was no legal basis to detain or use force against him at an event meant to honor his achievements. Despite this, the suit alleges, they wrongfully arrested and imprisoned him.
Killer Mike has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, but the incident, captured on video, sparked widespread criticism over how security handled the situation.
