Kodak Black’s career has become a cautionary tale. Once a breakout star, he now makes headlines more for controversy than music.

His name is increasingly tied to drug abuse, erratic behavior, and squandered potential. That pattern continued Monday when he dropped a freestyle on Instagram that sparked more concern than praise.

Instead of showcasing his lyrical ability, Kodak made an ill-advised move by publicly hitting on Reginae Carter, Lil Wayne’s daughter. The track doesn’t bury the line—it opens with it. “Reginae should be my bae,” he raps before adding, “I’m getting this Lucci now.” The reference to YFN Lucci, Reginae’s ex, makes his intentions clear. Lucci was recently released from prison, and Kodak apparently took that as an opportunity.

The rest of the freestyle is as chaotic as the video that accompanies it. Kodak fumbles with the camera, delivering an incoherent performance that does little to silence critics who say he’s spiraling. His latest misstep follows a disturbing pattern. This isn’t the first time he’s fixated on a woman publicly mourning a relationship.

In 2019, shortly after Nipsey Hussle’s murder, Kodak Black made an equally tasteless remark about Lauren London. “I’ll be the best man I can be for her,” he said on Instagram Live. “I’ll give her a whole year. She might need a whole year to be crying and sh*t for him.” The internet erupted in outrage.

T.I. and Big Boy were among those who condemned him. The veteran radio host refused to post Kodak’s photo but didn’t hold back in his response. “I’m not here for the blatant disrespect and fake ass apologies,” Big Boy wrote. “To disrespect the King Nipsey and The Queen Lauren is where I draw the line.”

Kodak’s career remains overshadowed by reckless behavior. Whether he can turn things around is uncertain, but moments like these only push him further from redemption.
