Kultida Woods, mother of gold legend Tiger Woods, passed away on Tuesday. She was 78.

Tiger confirmed his mother’s passing with a post on social media. He did not cite a cause or say where she died.

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning. My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable,” his post read.

“She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, and greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible. She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers, and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you, Mom.”

No cause of death was released.

As he played his way to being one of the greatest golfers of all time, Kultida was a constant presence at Tiger’s golf events.

When accepting the Bob Jones Award from the United States Golf Association 2024, Tiger made sure to express his gratitude for his mother’s ongoing support.

“ I didn’t do this alone,” Tiger said. “I had the greatest rock that any child could possibly have: my mom.”

Born Kultilda Punsawad in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, on Sept. 30, 1946, she met Earl Woods in her homeland while he was on military assignment with the U.S. and she was a secretary in Bangkok. She immigrated to the  U.S. in 1968. The couple married in New York and eventually, they moved to Cypress, California, where Tiger was born in 1975.

For 37 years until Earl Woodsthen’s death from cancer in 2006, the couple were married 37 years until his death from cancer in May 2006 at 74.

While his father was credited for Tiger’s competitive spirit, Tiger called his mother the “enforcer.”

“It started with Mom,” Tiger said at the launch event for his Sun Day Red clothing line last year. “Mom thought being a Capricorn that my power color was red, so I wore red as a junior golfer and I won some tournaments.

“Lo and behold, I go to a university that is red, Stanford is red. We wore red on the final day of every single tournament, and then every single tournament I’ve played as a professional I’ve worn red. It’s just become synonymous with me,” he continued.

We at HOT97 extend our prayers and deepest condolences to the family and friends of Kultida Woods.
