Lil Wayne recently shared what he considers his best verse ever during a conversation with Maverick Carter for his Mavericks series. When asked to reflect on his most memorable lyrical performance, Weezy didn’t hesitate to point to a track from the Hot Boys’ debut album Get It How U Live! released in 1997. “To me, to this day, my best verse is gonna always be my verse on my first solo song on the Hot Boys album, It was a song called ‘Block Burner,’” Wayne revealed.

Wayne recalled how his verse on “Block Burner” left a lasting impression on fellow artists, especially when performing in New York. “When we would go do shows and stuff in New York, even a TV show or something — if they had another New York artist on that, they would always pull me to the side and let me know like, ‘Bro, I respect that you rap like that and don’t cuss.’”

Having started his career at such a young age, Lil Wayne has built an impressive catalog over three decades. He made his debut as part of The B.G.’z, a duo with Hot Boys member B.G., and released True Story in 1995. Wayne also appeared on solo albums by Juvenile, B.G., and the Big Tymers during the late ’90s, solidifying his place in rap history.

Now, as the founder of Young Money, Wayne recently announced the much-anticipated release of his Carter VI album. The album, set to drop this year, will be his first full-length project since 2023’s Welcome 2 Collegrove, a collaborative effort with 2 Chainz.
