The hip-hop icon, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., spoke candidly about the split, describing his connection with Cannon as a “beautiful thing” but explaining that the decision to part ways was mutual.
Lil Wayne said he did not want to be a burden on her life, admitting to his audience that the situation “sucks” despite the necessity of the breakup. “I have epilepsy, I have seizures, right?” the rapper told his fans during the stream. He explained that a severe migraine, which often serves as a trigger for his seizures, made it unsafe for him to fly that night. Medical professionals recommended he avoid air travel to prevent a potentially life-threatening episode mid-flight.
The rapper has a well-documented history with the neurological disorder. In 2016, a private jet carrying the artist was forced to make an emergency landing after he suffered a seizure. Similar health scares occurred in 2012 and 2013, leading the rapper to be more vigilant about his flying habits and physical triggers in recent years.
