With anticipation building for Mac Miller’s Balloonerism, the late rapper’s estate revealed the official tracklist on Tuesday, January 7.
Set for release on January 17, the 14-track album marks his second posthumous project and features collaborations with SZA on “DJ’s Chord Organ” and Miller’s alter ego, Delusional Thomas, on “Transformations.”
Fans can look forward to a blend of cherished favorites and unreleased treasures. Confirmed tracks include “Funny Papers,” “Do You Have a Destination?” and “Tomorrow Will Never Know,” alongside fresh offerings like “Shangri-La” and “Rick’s Piano.”
To heighten the anticipation, a pre-release single, “5 Dollar Pony Rides,” will debut on January 9 at 12 p.m. ET. Notably, “DJ’s Chord Organ” marks the first official collaboration between Miller and SZA to appear on streaming platforms. Their creative synergy dates back to 2014 when Miller produced “Ur” for SZA’s EP Z. The connection deepened when SZA performed at his tribute concert in October 2018, just weeks after his untimely passing.
Balloonerism was formally announced in November 2024 following a teaser at the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival. Its release comes just days before what would have been Miller’s 33rd birthday and coincides with the fifth anniversary of his acclaimed album Circles.
The estate shared insights into the project’s significance, stating, “Many of Malcolm’s fans are aware of Balloonerism, a full-length album he created around the time of Faces in 2014. It was a deeply meaningful project to Malcolm, so much so that he commissioned artwork for it and regularly discussed its release. However, albums like GO:OD AM ultimately took precedence.”
The statement further emphasized how deeply the project resonated with the artist. Miller’s passion for Balloonerism was well-documented, with the estate noting it as “something he frequently expressed as being important to him.”
This album not only honors Mac Miller’s artistry but also serves as a poignant reminder of his enduring legacy, offering fans another glimpse into his creative spirit.
