This year’s Oscar nominations featured a ton of “firsts.”

Jordan Peele is a first-time feature film director with his monster hit, “Get Out,” and earned himself Oscar nominations for Best Director, Writing, and Picture!

Kobe Bryant is a legend in basketball and he’s managed to merge his world into cinema with animated short “Dear Basketball.” The feature has granted him an Oscar nomination. This man can do anything!

Rachel Morrison has become the first woman since 1929 to earn an Oscar nomination in the Best Cinematography category for her work in Mudbound. Could you believe it took almost a century for this to happen? The Academy couldn’t find a female cinematographer worthy of a nomination for that long? SMH.

Mary J. Blige has already made a name for herself in the music industry, but now she’s a force to be reckoned with in film! MJB received her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Florence Jackson in the Netflix movie, Mudbound. She’s also up for Best Original Song, “Mighty River” from the soundtrack for the Mudbound.
