Mary J. Blige is set to release her latest film project on Lifetime, Billboard reports.
Along with Blige, Lisa Lisa and Gloria Gaynor will also release biopics.
Featured in the network’s “Voices of a Lifetime” slate, Mary J. Blige’s Family Affair, an original movie, will premiere on Jan. 25.
Inspired by her classic hit “Family Affair”, the film follows the story of Kendra and Ben, who have relocated to a new town, and all of the complications that take place as they build a life together. Kendra and Ben are portrayed by Ajiona Alexus and Da’Vinchi who are also executive producers along with Blige.
The film is the third installment of Blige’s film franchise. In 2023, she released Mary J. Blige’s Real Love and Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman in 2024.
Debuting on Feb. 1, Can You Feel the Beat: The Lisa Lisa Story chronicles the life of Lisa Velez, the Latin dance/electronica trailblazer. The biopic centers on the singer/songwriter as a member of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. Collaborating with Full Force, she created timeless hits such as “I Wonder If I Take You Home,” “Head to Toe,” “Lost in Emotion,” “All Cried Out”, and “Let the Beat Hit ‘Em.” Velez is portrayed by Jearnest Corchado. She also plays her own mother and is the executive producer.
On Feb. 8, Robin Roberts Presents I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story. Gaynor. Known as the “Queen of Disco”, the life and times of Gaynor will be chronicled through the lens of her iconic song “I Will Survive.” The film stars Tony Award winner Joaquina Kalukango who plays Gaynor. She is also one of the executive producers on the project. She previously starred in Roberts’ Emmy-nominated biopic Mahalia. Lance Gross plays Gaynor’s husband and manager Linwood Simon. Gaynor is also an executive producer and wrote and recorded an original song for the film.
Following the airing of the movie, the documentary Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive, will premiere on the network.
