Not everyone is happy to see Michael Jackson’s name on Drake’s album.
The legacy of the “King of Pop” is certainly a delecate one, and some still hold Jackson’s music close to the heart.
Austin Brown is the late singer’s nephew by way of Rebbie, MJ’s eldest sister. When asked about his appearance in Drake’s track “Don’t Matter To Me,” he didn’t sound too happy about it.
“I mean, I’m not OK with it,” Brown said. “I mean, but Drake’s talented.”
He then began to elaborate why he felt that way.
“I just feel like, if he didn’t finish it, you shouldn’t use it,” he said. “He’s an artist. Everything he made, [I] respect the artist, I just don’t feel like it’s OK to use someone’s vocals and change them. It’s music at the end of the day. It’s art. I’m not gonna say [it’s] taking advantage [of Jackson]. [But] I wouldn’t do it.”
The track credits Paul Anka, who worked with Jackson in the 1983 session which included this audio. According to Spin they were working on a duet project which was pushed back due to the recording of an album called Thriller.
