Michelle Obama, her brother Craig Robinson, and former President Barack Obama came together for a new episode of IMO on July 16, diving into everything from family dynamics to public speculation. One topic they didn’t shy away from? Those persistent divorce rumors.
The episode opened on a playful note, with Robinson jokingly expressing surprise that Michelle and Barack were still on good terms. Barack played along, responding, “She took me back! It was touch and go for a while.”
Their lighthearted banter transitioned into a more pointed conversation when Robinson recalled a moment with a woman who seemed convinced something had gone wrong in the Obamas’ marriage. “What did he do?” she had asked. Barack instantly caught the meaning. “And you knew she was gon’ say, ‘What did he do?’ It wasn’t like, ‘What happened to him?’ It was like, ‘How’d he mess up?’” he said with a laugh.
Robinson reassured her that there was no truth to the rumors, and Barack admitted he’s often unaware of the narratives swirling online. “So I don’t even know this stuff is going on,” he said. “Then someone will mention it to me, and I’ll just be like, ‘What are you talking about?’”
Long before this episode aired, Michelle had already addressed the speculation during an appearance on the Work In Progress podcast. She explained that after leaving the White House, she intentionally pulled back from the spotlight to focus on personal life and privacy. Her absence at certain public events, including Donald Trump’s inauguration, fueled public chatter—but there was never a breakup behind the scenes.
Michelle acknowledged the perception but made it clear: the Obamas are still very much a team, even if they’re not always in the headlines together.
