MicMan, formerly known as Micah, is a fast-rising recording artist from Maryland.
While in the DMV, the region is unlike any other in hip-hop as it has produced a variety of chart-topping trendsetters, such as Logic, Rico Nasty, and JPEGMAFIA, to name a few. And like those who came before him, MicMan’s ascension to stardom is not your average rap story.
Born Micah Lawal, he began releasing music in 2023. Originally, MicMan was meant to pursue a career in Physics. However, music became his passion in the 2020s, and the early popularity he received gave him the drive to pursue it full-time. Taking the stage name MicMan, just like that, a star is born.
“No Issues,” the rapper’s debut single, is an intriguing track that showcases his early, nonchalant style, natural creativity, and ambition. As he grew, his sound became more trendy, and his fan base increased rapidly. Then 2024, his best year yet,
His breakout single, “Twelve,” his second single, clocked over 100,000 streams on Spotify within two months—without a major label, a playlisting machine, or an influencer gimmick. The achievement made him a target for A&Rs looking for that next big star.
Building on the streams, MicMan hit the campaign trail and performed on popular social music platforms, such as Block Work. The video, shot with bare-bones energy and a sense of urgency, lit up TikTok and garnered over 40,000 views on YouTube.
Fans admired his hustler’s tales. But they weren’t the only ones to notice his potential. MicMan began to receive phone calls and direct messages from the music industry, offering significant opportunities.
March’s “WYWD,” the new artist’s biggest hit so far, is a defiant anthem that doubles as a challenge: What You Wanna Do? The track captures the urgency of street ambition, laced with bravado and territorial pride. Lyrically, it reflects the mentality of an artist on the brink—unapologetically hungry, unwilling to be overlooked.
The music’s popularity led to endorsements from numerous rap stars, including Bobby Shmurda and Akon. Known for breaking acts like Lady Gaga, T-Pain, and Davido, an Akon co-sign can lead to breakthrough success.
In the fall of 2024, MicMan joined Chris Travis on a sold-out Live Nation tour, tearing through stages in Atlanta, Chicago, Toronto, New York, Dallas, and Houston. Audiences were surprised by Mic’s ability to control the room with undeniable rhymes, easy-on-the-eyes appeal, and showmanship. It’s that same intentionality that defines his offstage moves.
MicMan’s creativity led to a collaboration opportunity with hitmaking producer Tommy Brown. Since 2010, Brown, a talented producer and songwriter from Pittsburgh, has produced hit songs for some of music’s biggest names, including The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, and Ariana Grande. Brown’s latest hit is GloRilla’s “Typa,” which samples Keyshia Cole’s “Love.”
MicMan and Tommy Brown are working on a full-length album. Their first collaboration is the rap star’s latest hit, “Motion.” The song quickly garnered over 60,000 streams on Spotify upon its release.
The streams, working with Tommy Brown, and touring with Chris Travis would prepare MicMan for the most impactful call yet he would receive from former NFL-turned-recording artist Antonio Brown. While one of the most controversial athletes in the world, Brown garners a fanbase in the millions that has followed him into his music career. The controversy that would normally destroy the careers of other celebrities has only amplified his popularity to new heights.
Discovering MicMan’s music on social media, AB reached out to the recording artist while on the run from authorities, who were seeking him on attempted murder charges, with the desire to collaborate on new music. MicMan accepted the offer and immediately flew out to Dubai to meet with AB in the studio. AB will be on the remix to Mic’s latest hit, “Twelve.”
Mic’s hasn’t been navigating his rise to superstardom by himself. He has a great team behind him, including hedge fund owner Taylor Godwin and veteran music manager Sheikh Fye of Fame Management and BeMore Sounds. Together, they’ve created lucrative business opportunities for the buzzing rap star while he maintains complete creative control of his artistry.
Sheikh Fye, Fame Management, and BeMore Sounds are leaders in establishing high-profile branding deals within the gaming and tech industries. They excel at transforming cultural phenomena into powerful, recognizable brands that resonate with audiences. Fye’s resume includes Lil Flip, Dorrough Music, and the late Drakeo The Ruler.
Mic is set for his best year yet in 2025, with a new album and a remix featuring Antonio Brown on the way, thanks to his dedicated fan base. He values his fans and keeps them updated on social media about his activities.
On Instagram, under the username @micman112, he shows the hustle: studio nights, performance clips, fragments of what’s coming next. That transparency, paired with his music, has built a fanbase that cares about the person behind the mic as much as the product.
MicMan moves with purpose, not for attention. Each release, post, and performance reflects a larger vision shaped by discipline and intent.
In a music landscape often driven by instant gratification, he opts for endurance over expediency. He’s not chasing digital trends—he’s recalibrating them.
If his trajectory holds, MicMan won’t merely emerge as Maryland’s next breakout talent—he will help define the future architecture of independent hip-hop.
MicMan’s “Twelve” remix, featuring AB, is set for release in the coming weeks. To stay updated on the latest news about the Maryland rap star, follow him on social media.
