Moments You Missed From The BET Awards + List Of Winners

Every year, the BET awards “kicks off” summer!

Even though the celebration for their 20th award show was different this year, the message remains the same. Celebrate black culture. 

The show, virtually hosted by Amanda Seales, started with a performance with Nas, Public Enemy, and Rapsody, Black Thought, Jahi, and YG. They did a remake of Public Enemy’s “Fight The Power.” They made bold statements about the black lives matter movement. The night was filled with other meaningful performances like that. Alicia Keys, Megan Thee Stallion, and Roddy Ricch gave purpose-filled performances shedding light on police brutality. DaBaby’s performance was most notable, he reenacted George Floyd’s death. 

The big winner of the night was Beyonce, she won the humanitarian award, and it was presented by forever First Lady, Michelle Obama. Beyonce also took home the BET Her award for “Brown Skin Girl” featuring Blue Ivy, WizKid & Saint Jhn. Blue Ivy won her first BET award. 

Roddy Ricch Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial won album of the year. Video of the year was awarded to D Khaled featuring Nipsey Hussle & John Legend, “Higher.” The viewer’s choice award went to Megan Thee Stallion featuring Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign for their collaboration on “Hot Girl Summer.” Chris Brown featuring Drake’s No Guidance” won the best collaboration. Chris Brown also won the best male r&b/pop artist. 

Lizzo took the award home for the best female r&b/pop artist. Megan Thee Stallion won for best female hip hop artist. DaBaby won the best male hip hop artist. Migos won for the best group. Roddy Ricch won in the best new artist category. Teyanna “Spike Lee” Taylor won video Director of the year. Queen and Slim won the best movie. See the complete list of winners here:
