Netflix has announced the highly-anticipated release of Court of Gold with the first-look trailer.
The series gives a behind-the-scenes look at the basketball teams from the United States, France, Serbia, and Canada that competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the history of basketball at the Olympics, 2024 was one of the most competitive years.
The U.S. squad that won the gold medal featured LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker, and Joel Embiid. Victor Wembanyama and Rudy Gobert led the French team. For Canada, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jamal Murray, and Dillon Brooks were the team’s leaders.
The synopsis of the series reads: “For the first time ever, top medal contenders in men’s basketball granted behind-the-scenes access at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. COURT OF GOLD gives an unfiltered, insider look at Team USA, France, Serbia, and Canada as they gear up and battle for gold in Paris. International basketball has caught up to the U.S. and the competition and stakes are higher than ever.”
Barack and Michelle Obama are among the executive producers for Court of Gold and Jake Royal directs the series.
Ethan Lewis, Senior Vice President of Non-Fiction at Higher Ground Productions, spoke about the making of the docuseries.
“The Paris Olympic basketball tournament was the single greatest collection of basketball talent from around the world to ever compete in an Olympic Games, all putting their lives on hold and bodies on the line for pride and country,” Lewis said. “That’s what makes the Olympics so special, the world’s greatest athletes competing for something bigger than themselves and bringing the world together while they do it.
Court of Gold will premiere on Netflix on Feb. 18.
