NLE Choppa is gearing up to explore a new musical direction, revealing plans to drop an R&B album by the end of 2024. Over the weekend, the Memphis rapper took to X to share the news, writing: “Dropping A R&B Project Before Year Out Mama,” accompanied by heart emojis on November 30.
This upcoming project will follow his September release, Slut SZN, which served as a companion soundtrack to his self-produced and directed remake of The Wash, the 2001 stoner comedy by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Despite being born a year after the film’s release, NLE Choppa found inspiration to not only star in the remake but also make his directorial debut alongside music video director Ben Marc. NLE Choppa Presents: The Wash features cameos from Lil Wayne, Sukihana, JP, and a lineup of popular influencers. According to TMZ, the project was entirely unscripted, with cast members improvising their roles.
On another front, NLE Choppa expressed frustration after being excluded from Complex’s list of the 20 best rappers in their 20s, which debuted in September. In a six-minute rant, he addressed the omission, saying, “Whoever made that Complex list, I just want to let you know something: your ass need to go do rock and roll or some other shit.” Although he didn’t discredit those on the list—including Cash Cobain, Sexyy Red, Lil Uzi Vert, GloRilla, and Playboi Carti—he argued he deserved recognition.
Highlighting his accomplishments, NLE said, “I’m 21, bro. Who did what I did at 21? Eighteen platinum [plaques], six or seven gold… Sold out shows everywhere: America, Europe, Australia, Canada.” He concluded with a pointed question: “Who been dominating this whole year in the male atmosphere?”
