Peter Rosenberg will examine the making of Beyoncé‘s Cowboy Carter album in a new podcast.
Titled “This Ain’t Texas”, Rosenberg explores Queen Bey’s latest gender-bending album and her Grammy legacy,
In the trailer for the series, Rosenberg described Beyoncé as “the most important artist of her generation’ citing Cowboy Carter as “a genre-defining, captivating, and, to some, polarizing masterpiece.”
Throughout the series, Rosenberg will discuss the creation of the LP with producers from the album and music critics. He will also chronicle Beyoncé’s contentious relationship with some of the gatekeepers in the world of country music.
In a statement, Rosenberg shared his vision of the series.
“I am so excited about this. It is just going to run from the end of November until the first week of February. I am calling it a “pop-up” podcast,” Rosenberg said.
“I decided to make time for this because I think Beyoncé’s career arc and this specific Cowboy Carter album are worth exploring in depth — particularly because I believe she has, hands down, the album of the year,” he continued. “So, I am going to talk to writers, critics, musicians, producers, and Beyoncé collaborators about her career and why this album should be the first to get her album of the year.”
Released on March 29, 2024, Cowboy Carter spotlighted the often-overlooked contributions of Black artists to country music and Americana. The album blends rock rock and roll, folk, rhythm and blues, pop, psychedelic soul, and bluegrass. Black country artists such as Shaboozey, Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Tiera Kennedy, Reyna Roberts, and Willie Jones are featured on the LP. Also, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Nile Rodgers, Jon Batiste, and Rhiannon Giddens. Upon its release, Cowboy Carter was universally regarded as one of Beyoncé‘s finest works.
Rosenberg is one of the most popular media personalities. He co-hosts Hot 97’s “Ebro in the Morning” show along with Ebro and Laura Stylez and the “The Michael Kay Show” from 4 – 7 p.m. ET on ESPN radio. He also is a correspondent for the WWE Network. His late-night show Real Late with Peter Rosenberg is also on Hot 97. He is considered one of the first hip-hop podcasters with co-host Cipha Sounds on Juan Epstein.
