Sean Kingston is seeking permission from a federal judge to leave South Florida for one night to perform at Summerfest 2025 in Milwaukee. According to All Hip Hop, Kingston’s attorney filed the motion. It comes after the singer was convicted of defrauding luxury vendors out of more than $1 million. Kingston’s real name is Kisean Anderson. He has been on home detention since April. His confinement followed a conviction on six federal charges, including conspiracy and wire fraud.

In a motion submitted by his lawyer, Zeljka Bozanic, Kingston explained that he has been unable to generate income while under home detention, as most of his job offers involve concerts outside of his district. “Mr. Anderson has not been able to produce income since being placed on home detention since most of his job offers include appearing at concerts outside of our district,” Bozanic said. Kingston is reportedly struggling financially because he is unable to work.

Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were convicted of conspiracy in connection to a large-scale fraud scheme. Their conviction stemmed from scamming high-end vendors using fake wire transfer receipts and forged documents. This allowed them to obtain luxury goods without paying. The scam targeted sellers of luxury cars, jewelry, and electronics. A jury found Kingston guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and five counts of wire fraud on March 28, 2025. Authorities released him on bond in mid-April with conditions, including GPS monitoring and a ban on leaving the Southern District of Florida.

Kingston’s legal team argues that the performance is a legitimate concert opportunity. They say it could help him recover financially. It would also allow him to fulfill a prior commitment. The filing clarifies that this is not a nightclub appearance but a legitimate festival event. Kingston is offering to provide detailed travel plans and check in with his probation officer before and after the trip. He faces up to 20 years in prison for each count, with his sentencing hearing set for August 15, 2025.
