Soulja Boy is facing serious accusations in a civil trial where an anonymous woman, who says she once worked as his personal assistant, is suing him for nearly $75 million. The woman alleges the rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, raped her. She also claims he kidnapped and physically abused her. These incidents are said to have occurred during her employment, which began in 2018.
During closing arguments this week, the plaintiff’s attorney Ron Zambrano detailed the alleged abuse in court, telling the jury: “He raped her. He punched her. He kicked her. He cut her. He pointed a Draco gun at her. He locked her in her room … He told her, ‘I hope you die slow.’” According to Courthouse News, Zambrano argued that the level of trauma his client endured from the abuse justifies the $73.6 million she is seeking in damages. “If you don’t believe my client, don’t give her a dollar,” he said. “But if you do believe her, give her everything.”
Zambrano also criticized Soulja Boy’s courtroom appearance, suggesting he was attempting to manipulate the jury: “It was an act, a four-week act with glasses and a suit. The act you’re being asked to buy, unfortunately, my client did buy it. It’s why she went back. I ask that you don’t fall for the man sitting over there with fake glasses on trying to convince you he’s incapable of the bruises you’ve seen, the cuts you’ve seen, the text messages he sent.” He also highlighted the abuse his client allegedly endured during her time working for Soulja Boy.
Soulja Boy’s lawyer, Rickey Ivie, dismissed the abuse claims in a statement to XXL, calling them “grossly exaggerated and unfounded just as her allegations are unfounded and unsubstantiated.”
The lawsuit was originally filed in 2021. This case follows a 2023 civil judgment. In that case, a jury ordered Soulja Boy to pay $472,000. The case involved separate assault and kidnapping allegations from the current abuse allegations.
