A $50 Million lawsuit that was filed against Nelly by the St. Lunatics has been dropped.

According to Billboard,  Ali moved to drop the lawsuit on Apr. 10  but Nelly’s attorneys have requested the judge not to fully dismiss the case because they could countersue Ali for the “frivolous” lawsuit.

Plaintiff’s counsel succeeded in its frivolous campaign aimed at forcing [Nelly] to spend money defending Plaintiff’s ridiculous time-barred claim,” Nelly’s legal team wrote in a statement. “The Court is respectfully requested to retain jurisdiction and set a briefing and hearing schedule for [potential sanctions].”

Originally filed in September in Manhattan federal court, the St. Lunatics claimed that Nelly “manipulated”  the group into believing they’d eventually score a major payday for their work on his 2000 smash Country Grammar.

“Every time plaintiffs confronted defendant Haynes [he] would assure them as ‘friends’ he would never prevent them from receiving the financial success they were entitled to,” the lawsuit read.

The contributions on tracks on the album such as “Steal the Show,” “Thicky Thick Girl,” “Batter Up,” and the classic “Country Grammar” were completely erased.

In 2023, Ali alleged that would never perform with Nelly in the future because he owed money during an interview on VladTV.

“A tiger ain’t never gonna change his stripes,” Ali explained. “I watched it for 20 years and I’m the butt of the joke because it took me 20 years to realize it. I could put a never, ever behind it will I ever hit the stage or do anything with him.”

“He has no real, raw good intentions for others,” he continued. “Not for us and we’ve all sat together and searched hard to try to find a time that didn’t benefit him. He got $50 million, I’m happy for him. That’s what he wants. He wants a billion.”
