According to reports, on the newest edition of The Stephen A. Smith Show, the ESPN host weighed in on Kendrick Lamar‘s highly anticipated Grand National Tour, which will see the rapper join SZA for a show in Drake‘s own city, Toronto.
Smith, leaning into his signature “trust me, bro” confidence, hinted that Drake is well aware of the commentary he’s offered on his YouTube platform. Taking a moment to address the Toronto rapper head-on, Smith made it clear he had something to say directly to him. He stated, “I did not say or echo a single negative thing about you. You’re a phenomenal artist. You’re big time.” “What I said was—fact—’Not Like Us’ got you.”
The personality clarified that his opinions of Kendrick’s win after ‘Not Like Us’ were not stemming from Drake’s recent lawsuits against UMG but rather the Compton rapper’s lyricism. “What I’m saying is, you don’t go the lawyer route in hip-hop over something like this,” he expressed. “I didn’t sit up there and say you can’t answer Kendrick Lamar. I said, ‘You better figure out a way to do so,’ meaning you have the capability, I think, to pull it off. That’s all!”
Stephen A. Smiith Reassures his stance on drake vs. kendrick beef
Regardless of the recent outcome, Stephen A. reassured his viewers that he believes Drake should respond with a more effective diss to Kendrick. Smith voiced, “The point is Kendrick got you with that song. Come back with one of yours. That’s all I’m saying.” “This is what you do. You come back with yours, or you say, ‘Damn, he got me.’”
He continued, “If you’re gonna rely on lawyers, then it’s not a good look because that ain’t what hip-hop is. That’s all. And if that’s how you feel, then they’re right when they say, ‘Not like us.’”
Additionally, the personality also apologized to Drake for any comments he made about the rap feud that upset him. However, viewers were skeptical of the apology’s sincerity, due to him labeling Drake as “a bit sensitive in these times” and “in his feelings.”
