Stephen A. Smith can’t escape the backlash following his comments on Serena Williams‘ unexpected appearance at Kendrick Lamar‘s Super Bowl Halftime Show.
On Tuesday, the sports figure turned to X to reply to a user who stated, “A 57-year-old UNMARRIED man with a receding hairline who has never BEEN married mind you, saying he would divorce our greatest living athlete who has been happily married for 8 years to her very rich and loving husband—keep quiet forehead.” Smith said in response, “Please go back and look at exactly what I said. I was talking overall from a man’s perspective — highlighting what most men would think. I didn’t utter a single disrespectful word about Serena.” “No issues with folks getting upset of literal serious stuff one’s pissed about. This doesn’t qualify peeps. Come on. We were joking around on @FirstTake. Damn y’all! It’s not that serious.”

Smith Fires Back at Serena’s ‘Trolling’ Moment, Revisiting the Drake-Ohanian Rivalry
On Monday, Smith shared his thoughts on ESPN’s First Take, just one day after Serena stunned viewers by showing up and Crip walking to Kendrick Lamar’s diss track aimed at Drake, “Not Like Us.” “If I’m married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to his ass,” Smith stated. “‘Cause clearly you don’t belong with me. What you worried about him for and you’re with me? Bye. Bye.”
Years ago, whispers swirled about a romance between Drake and Serena. Last summer, he disclosed that his 2016 track “Too Good” featuring Rihanna was inspired by Williams. Just a year following the album’s release, in 2017, the tennis legend tied the knot with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and the couple celebrated the arrival of their first child that same year. Drake’s and Ohanian’s rivalry has spanned years. In 2022, after Drake branded Ohanian a “groupie” on the Her Loss track “Middle of the Ocean,” Ohanian swiftly responded on X.
At last summer’s “Pop-Out: Ken and Friends” concert, Kendrick set the stage for Ohanian to take a shot at Drake. In response to a video of K.Dot looping “Not Like Us,” Ohanian quote-tweeted it with a viral moment of Kobe Bryant delivering a scathing remark. “I’m going to beat you,” Smith voiced. “I’m going to let you know I beat you. And I’m gonna want you to reconsider your professional life choice.”
