T-Pain has a theory about $ome $exy $ongs, Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s new collaborative album. He believes the project might consist of leftover tracks from their past recording sessions rather than entirely new material.
During a recent livestream, T-Pain shared his thoughts, suggesting that Drake repurposed songs to keep PARTYNEXTDOOR involved. “I feel like Drake recorded a bunch of stuff,” he said. “And to keep PARTY around, he probably said, ‘Here, take 10 or 15 of these, put a verse on them, and that’s our album.’” He clarified that his comments weren’t a criticism of the album’s quality.
“I’m not saying the songs are bad,” he added. “These are just tracks that didn’t make other albums. Or maybe PARTY brought Drake an album and asked him to add verses.”
Regardless of its origins, $ome $exy $ongs is already a massive hit. Billboard reports that the 21-track LP set the record for the biggest first-day streams for an R&B/soul album in Apple Music history. Released on Valentine’s Day, the project includes guest appearances from Yebba and Chino Pacas.
One of the album’s standout moments comes on GIMME A HUG, where Drake name-drops Melyssa Ford and Joe Budden. He praises Ford, a former music video model and co-host of Budden’s podcast, calling her a “legend from the 6.” In contrast, he takes a jab at Budden, referring to him with a crass insult.
Ford admitted she was still processing the mention but later updated her Instagram bio to reflect the compliment. “I don’t know what he’s trying to do,” she said on Budden’s podcast. “I’m not in that man’s mind.” Meanwhile, Budden brushed off the diss, simply responding, “I was happy.”
