Teyana Taylor is opening up about her high-profile split from former NBA star Iman Shumpert—and she’s making it clear she has no regrets about the price tag that came with it.

During a recent interview, the singer, actress, and creative director revealed that the $70,000 she was ordered to pay in legal fees tied to her divorce was worth every penny.

“That was the best little coin I ever spent in my life because I never have to deal with this again,” Taylor admits, noting that while the payment stung financially, it gave her peace of mind and a sense of closure.

The hefty sum stems from a contempt of court ruling earlier this summer. In July, a judge found Taylor in violation of a gag order after she went live on Instagram in March to address rumors surrounding her split and defend herself against claims she was attempting to take Shumpert’s assets.
As a result, Taylor was ordered to cover Shumpert’s $70,000 legal bill. The court also denied her request that Shumpert pay her own legal expenses. However, one of Shumpert’s motions accusing Taylor of violating their parenting plan was dismissed.

While some might view the court order as a major setback, Taylor framed it as an investment in her freedom. After years of public speculation about her marriage and split, she said paying the fine was a small price to pay to move forward with her career and personal life without lingering court battles.
“Sometimes peace is more important than pride,” she said, emphasizing that the payout allowed her to put the divorce saga behind her once and for all.

The Relationship:

Taylor and Shumpert married in 2016 and share two daughters. Their separation became public in 2023, and their legal battle has continued to make headlines through 2025. Despite the bumps along the way, Taylor appears focused on a fresh start, with her music, acting projects, and business ventures keeping her booked and busy.
