Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock, has deepened his ties with Disney, expanding his production company, Seven Bucks, into television.

After starring in Disney hits like The Game Plan and Race to Witch Mountain, he returned to the studio with Jungle Cruise in 2021 and Behind the Attraction, a Disney+ docuseries that ran for two seasons. Most recently, he reprised his role as Maui in Moana 2, which has surpassed $1 billion at the global box office.

Under the new deal, Seven Bucks is producing a live-action remake of Moana, with Johnson once again playing Maui, along with a motorsports-themed film set in the Monster Jam universe.

“Few producers are as synonymous with franchise-building as Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia,” said 20th Television president Karey Burke. “DJ is arguably the biggest star on the planet. His charisma and natural charm elevate every character and story Seven Bucks brings to the screen. They’ve had an incredible run with Disney films, and we’re excited to extend that success into television.”

Previously, Seven Bucks’ television arm was based at Universal TV, where it produced Young Rock, a semi-autobiographical comedy co-created and executive produced by Johnson.

“Disney has been a trusted storytelling partner for years, and we’re excited to expand that collaboration into television,” Johnson and Garcia said. “In 20th Television, we have a partner that shares our ambition and passion for creating innovative, authentic content for audiences worldwide. Working with Dana Walden, Eric Schrier, Karey Burke, Carolyn Cassidy, and the entire 20th Television team opens the door to limitless storytelling opportunities.”

Seven Bucks recently produced the Amazon MGM film Red One and has several major projects in development, including The Smashing Machine for A24 and new installments in Universal’s Fast & Furious and Sony’s Jumanji franchises.
