The Roots are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their legendary major-label debut, Do You Want More?!!!??!, with an exclusive residency at New York City’s iconic Blue Note Jazz Club. From March 13th to 15th, the hip-hop trailblazers will perform six intimate shows over three nights, bringing fans closer than ever to their groundbreaking sound.

Questlove and Black Thought, the group’s founding members, shared the announcement on Instagram. Reflecting on the album’s legacy, Questlove described it as “the first album that allowed us to make 13, 14, 15, 16 albums,” highlighting its pivotal role in their career.

The celebration comes at a time when fans are buzzing about the possibility of new music from The Roots. The band hasn’t released an album since 2014’s …And Then You Shoot Your Cousin, but a comeback may be on the horizon. During a 2023 episode of Questlove’s Questlove Supreme podcast, the drummer spoke about how recent veteran rap collaborations—like Common and Pete Rock’s The Auditorium Vol. 1—have reignited The Roots’ passion for creating.

“I believe that this particular album will spark a renaissance,” Questlove said, hinting at the group’s readiness to reclaim their influential place in music.

As The Roots honor their past with this Blue Note residency, fans can look forward to a celebration of timeless hip-hop and a glimpse of what’s to come from one of the genre’s most innovative acts.
