The WNBA has released its game schedule for the 2025 regular season, its 29th year. Opening night is on Friday, May 16. The regular season will conclude on Thursday, Sept. 11, followed by the WNBA Playoffs presented by Google.
For the first time, the regular season will consist of 44 games. Each squad will play 22 home games and 22 road games. Additionally, the fifth annual WNBA Commissioner’s Cup presented by Coinbase will “include a 17-day period in June when the league’s schedule will consist entirely of Cup games.”
Cathy Engelbert, the WNBA Commissioner, released a statement sharing her excitement about the upcoming season.
“We look forward to tipping off the WNBA’s 29th season in May of 2025 and continuing to build on the success of last season,” Engelbert said. “When the WNBA delivered its most-watched Draft and All-Star Game, and set records for viewership, attendance, digital consumption, and merchandise sales. The upcoming free agency period and the 2025 WNBA Draft presented by State Farm® will create a tremendous level of excitement. We are also looking forward to the expansion of the Golden State Valkyries taking the court for the first time.”
During opening weekend, all 13 teams will be playing as part of WNBA Tip-Off 2025 presented by CarMax. On May 16, the Golden State Valkyries will make their league debut against the Los Angeles Sparks.
On May 17, Caitlin Clark of Indiana Fever will take on Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky in what has become one of the most intense rivalries in sports.
New York Liberty, the defending champs, will receive their championship rings before taking on the Las Vegas Aces.
The 2024 season garnered record-breaking ratings for the “W.” In 24 games, the 2024 WNBA regular season on ESPN platforms averaged 1.2 million viewers, up 170 percent vs. 2023. Also, the most-watched game of the regular season, Indiana Fever at Chicago Sky on June 23, brought in 2.3 million viewers.
The WNBA will unveil its complete television and streaming schedule at a later date.
