“There is no formal training class to prepare you for the most important job that you’ll ever have in your life,” Tina Knowles said while accepting the Mother of the Year award at Billboard’s annual Women In Music event on Saturday (Mar.29).
Regarded as the “Ultimate matriarch in Hollywood,” Knowles made history as the award’s inaugural winner. Throughout her moving speech, the Matriarch author shared her journey with motherhood, from its peaks and valleys.
“You will most likely screw up sometimes. I know I did. And unfortunately, there are no do-overs,” Tina Knowles said. While the mother of two acknowledges the importance of having a positive role model of motherhood when raising your own child, according to her, “at the end of the day, it is really on you.”
“It’s the best job I’ve ever had,” Tina Knowles said
Later in the speech, Knowles thanked her daughters Beyoncé and Solange, her niece, Angela (Angie) Renee Beyincé, and former Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett.
“I got to mother you all in some ways, and you guys believed in me early on to dress you and to give a lot of creative input,” Knowles continued. She also thanked her ex-husband and father to Beyoncé and Solange, Matthew Knowles, who she says “always fought” for her.

Knowles added, “And I thank God Almighty for the privilege to be a mother. I’ll always say it’s the best job that I’ve ever had. I dedicate this award to my amazing mother, Agnes, and all the mothers out there who have supported their kids in their dreams. Thank you.”
The following day, Tina Knowles shared a clip of the speech and wrote in the post’s caption, “Last night I humbly received A “Mother Of The Year Award” from Billboard’s Women In Music Awards. It was for doing something that I love so much! To all the moms out there that have been blessed to do the most important job you will ever have. I dedicate this award to you [heart emoji].”
