No justice, no peace.
The black community and the people who are with us are hurting right now.
The grand jury’s decision yesterday (September 23) to not charge the three officers involved for killing Breonna, is a slap in the face, especially since one out of the three officers will be indicted, but it has nothing to do with the actual murder or Breonna. Former officer, Brett Hankison, is only facing three counts of Wanton endangerment. This charge is for putting the neighbors at risk when the multiple shots were fired.
Louisville, Kentucky had been gearing up ahead of the decision, putting the city on lockdown. Awarding Breonna’s family with $12 million for “wrongful death,” but failed to charge anyone for her wrongful death. After the announcement was made, protestors, heartbroken and furious, stormed the streets and marched in various cities.
In Louisville, two officers were shot during a protest. It happened shortly before the 9 p.m. curfew and one of the officers is okay while the other had to get surgery but is expected to be okay. CNN reports a suspect has been taken into custody.
50 people in Louisville were reportedly taken into custody. It’s also being reported that fires were set near the city’s courthouse. There’s footage of officers spraying tear gas and overall chaos.
Protests were also happening in other cities like Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, take a look:
