Will Smith received his flowers in the “City of Brotherly Love.”
On Wednesday (March 26), Smith was honored in his hometown of Philadelphia with a portion of 59th Street renamed “Will Smith Way.”
Taking to Instagram, Smith showed his gratitude for the honor.
“Philly, I am yours. This is the honor of a lifetime,” Smith wrote in a post on Instagram Thursday, (March 27). He also included photos of him posing with Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, Caroline Bright, and other city officials.
Smith posted photos and a video of the sign with the name Will Smith Way over a bridge in the city.
“Hey, Philly. I love you. I am yours, you are mine. I will see you on the Fourth of July,” Smith’s caption read.
Parker also lauded Smith in a post on Instagram.
“From his roots of being born and raised in West Philadelphia, to his rise as a global superstar, he’s shown us all what it means to dream big and work hard,” Parker wrote in her caption.
“We are incredibly proud to call @willsmith one of our own. His achievements are a reflection of the strength, resilience, and brilliance of Philadelphia’s people. As we rename 2000 N. 59th Street in Will’s honor today, let’s celebrate everything he represents — creativity, kindness, and the power of community.”
Along with his street renaming, Smith is also gearing up to release his new album titled Based On a True Story.
The LP is Smith’s first full-length album since Lost and Found in 2005. The album is slated to be the first installment of his three-part series that he’s planning to release on SLANG Recordings.
“Beautiful Scars”, the first single from the album features Big Sean and Obanga and is Produced by OmArr and LeXoskeleton.
