Will Smith and Jaafar Jackson join forces to solve a prison mystery in their next film, action-thriller Supermax. Deadline broke the news on Monday.
Jaafar Jackson, whose breakout performance as his late uncle in the blockbuster biopic Michael turned him into an overnight star, has joined the cast of Supermax, the upcoming action thriller from Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax.
Jackson joins Smith and Anna Sophia Robb in a film built around an impossible crime. Supermax follows two FBI agents, played by Smith and Robb, as they investigate a murder inside a maximum-security prison where escape and outside interference appear impossible. Producers are keeping Jackson’s role under wraps, though insiders describe his character as pivotal to the story.

David Gordon Green directs from a screenplay by David Weil and David J. Rosen. Smith also serves as a producer through Westbrook Studios alongside Adam Fishbach, with Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman producing for The Picture Company. The film is expected to debut on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories following its release.
For Jackson, Supermax marks his first major project after Michael became a global phenomenon. The film grossed more than $1 billion worldwide and established itself as the highest-grossing biopic ever released. Critics praised Jackson’s emotionally layered portrayal of the King of Pop, applauding both his dramatic range and uncanny physical transformation while introducing him as one of Hollywood’s most promising new leading men.
Now, Jackson shifts from portraying a music icon to sharing the screen with one of the industry’s biggest box office draws. Smith’s return to the action-thriller genre adds another high-profile chapter to a career defined by blockbuster franchises and character-driven performances.
Although plot details remain closely guarded, Supermax pairs an established global star with one of cinema’s newest breakout talents. The collaboration positions the film as one of Amazon MGM’s most anticipated releases.
Giving Jackson another opportunity to prove his breakout performance in Michael was only the beginning of a rapidly ascending career.
