Music mogul Kanye West—now known as Ye—issued a statement on Tuesday (April 7) addressing mounting criticism tied to his scheduled headlining performance at the Wireless Festival in London this summer.

The statement, provided to the BBC on April 7, comes after several sponsors reportedly withdrew support following the festival’s announcement that Ye would headline the three-day event, scheduled for July 10–12. Despite the backlash, festival organizer Melvin Benn released a separate statement on April 6 expressing support for Ye’s upcoming appearance.

In his message, Ye acknowledged the public debate surrounding his involvement while framing the performance as an opportunity to demonstrate personal growth.

“I’ve been following the conversation around Wireless and want to address it directly,” Ye said in the statement. “My only goal is to come to London and present a show of change, bringing unity, peace, and love through my music.”

The comments arrive after years of controversy surrounding the artist’s past antisemitic remarks, which previously strained relationships with corporate partners and drew widespread criticism from advocacy groups and public figures.

Rather than directly addressing those past incidents, Ye’s statement emphasized reconciliation and the possibility of dialogue.

“I would be grateful for the opportunity to meet with members of the Jewish community in the UK in person, to listen,” he wrote. “I know words aren’t enough – I’ll have to show change through my actions. If you’re open, I’m here.”

The outreach marks one of Ye’s most direct attempts in recent months to publicly engage with critics and communities affected by his previous statements.

Ye concluded the message with a sign-off reflecting the name change he adopted in recent years: “With Love, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.”

The controversy surrounding his Wireless appearance highlights the continued scrutiny facing the Grammy-winning artist. While festival organizers have reiterated their support, the sponsor withdrawals and public debate underscore the broader tensions around Ye’s return to major live stages.
