YG Briefly Detained Over Drakeo The Ruler Death Before Verzuz

After rapping about the late Los Angeles rapper Drakeo The Ruler in his latest album, The Gentlemen’s Club, YG was briefly detained by authorities on Thursday, who are investigating Drakeo’s death by stabbing in December 2021, according to TMZ. A clip of YG in custody circulated on social media immediately as fans prepare for his Verzuz against fellow Compton rapper The Game on Thursday evening.

According to reports, YG’s detainment by law enforcement officers was executed after a search warrant tied to the ongoing homicide investigation of Drakeo the Ruler. The search warrant was executed at approximately 7 a.m. Thursday at a Burbank, California, property connected to YG.

The California Highway Patrol led the operation, with the Burbank Police Department’s SWAT team providing tactical assistance. YG has had prior run-ins with law enforcement before but not a public murder investigation.

After authorities completed the search, the Compton rapper was released without charges. Prosecutors have not charged YG in connection with the homicide, and investigators have not publicly identified him as a suspect. YG is scheduled to face Game in the “Compton Forever” VERZUZ event, brought to you by Apple Music.

The California Highway Patrol emphasized that YG’s detention was procedural and occurred solely to facilitate the execution of the warrant. As the agency told TMZ, the rapper “was not arrested.”

The homicide investigation into Drakeo the Ruler remains active. No additional arrests or charges related to the July 23 search warrant have been announced. Drakeo The Ruler was quickly rising in the Los Angeles hip-hop before his death. He had collaborations with Drake, 03 Greedo, and Fenix Flexin upon his murder.

On The Gentlemen’s Club track, “We Know The Truth,” YG raps about his history with Drakeo The Ruler and addresses rumors. He denied any involvement in the stabbing at the local festival in December 2021 that led to Drakeo’s death from his sustained injuries.
