Young Thug reportedly ordered a retail store manager to turn off a song featuring Gunna.
The incident occurred while Young Thug was in Manhattan preparing for a highly anticipated YSL label showcase at Irving Plaza. Witnesses said the Atlanta rapper, whose legal name is Jeffery Williams, was browsing in a local storefront when the track “Dollaz On My Head” began playing over the store’s audio system.
The 2020 hit, which features both artists, apparently struck a cord with Williams, who promptly requested that the manager turn the music off. The exchange serves as the latest confirmation that the relationship between the two frequent collaborators remains fractured following the high-profile YSL Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act case.
While both men were initially arrested together and held in custody, Gunna, born Sergio Kitchens, was released in late 2022 after entering an Alford plea. The move by Kitchens led to widespread speculation within the music industry and among fans that he had cooperated with authorities to secure his freedom. Williams remained in custody for a significantly longer period, eventually securing his release through a complex plea agreement that ended one of the longest trials in Georgia history.
Since regaining his freedom, Williams has distanced himself from Kitchens both personally and professionally. Industry insiders said the Irving Plaza incident illustrates that despite their shared history of chart-topping hits, the bridge between the two rappers may be permanently burned. The rift has divided the hip-hop community, with fans debating whether the duo will ever reconcile to produce new music.
While Kitchens has continued to release commercially successful projects following his release, critics have noted a shift in the creative output and public reception of both artists since the legal proceedings concluded. Supporters of Williams have largely remained loyal to the YSL founder, who is expected to appear on new material with other collaborators, including Future, in the coming days.
For now, the “King of Slime” appears more interested in looking forward than listening to the hits of his past.
