Young Thug‘s YSL trial saw a dramatic shift this week when a key prosecution witness received a five-year sentence for delivering testimony that contradicted his plea deal. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Antonio Sledge was arrested Friday, October 18, after Judge Paige Reese Whitaker determined his testimony last month breached his agreement with the state. Under a plea deal sparing him from prison, Sledge was given 15 years of probation in exchange for confirming 16 key details about YSL, including the murder of Donovan “Nut” Thomas and Thug’s supposed involvement.
Sources indicate, “On January 10, 2015, after the murder of Donovan Thomas, Jr., Defendant and other YSL associates gathered at the home of Jeffery Williams AKA Young Thug, who gave Defendant and other YSL associates cash money to ‘lay low.’” Nonetheless, on the witness stand, Sledge altered his narrative, insisting time and again, “I don’t recall,” when questioned about the murder. Judge Whitaker then deemed Sledge’s decision as a violation of “the solemn oath that he took when he said that he understood every term within the plea agreement factual acknowledgements.”
The judge emphasized that any breach of his agreement could result in the revocation of his entire 15-year probation. Whitaker stated, “There is not a proper regard for the judicial system and the seriousness with which an oath in court needs to be taken.”
Sledge Arrested as Jail Corruption Surfaces
Judge Whitaker has terminated Sledge’s five-year probation, resulting in his immediate detention, despite his appeal for time to sort out personal matters. In a surprising twist earlier this month, a former Fulton County corrections officer was implicated in collusion with one of Thug’s associates. WSB-TV reported that 31-year-old Karmen Bailey is facing charges for allegedly accepting $17,000 in bribes from Marquavious Huey’s family in return for smuggling drugs and other illicit items into the Fulton County Jail.
