It looks like this fight MIGHT just be close to happening.

For over a year now, a dream fight between one of the best in UFC and one of the greatest in the history of boxing has been rumored. Now we are one step away from happening.

After much back and forth over the last few months, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has agreed to what he claims is a “record breaking” deal to fight Mayweather.

In a statement to TheMacLife.com, he said:

“It is an honor to sign this record-breaking deal alongside my partners Zuffa LLC, The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Paradigm Sports Management,” McGregor said. “The first, and most important part of this historic contract has now officially been signed off on. Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await [promoter] Al Haymon and his boxer’s signature in the coming days.”

Terms of the deal are not yet available, but it could be very interesting how this plays out in the next couple days.

McGregor initially asked for $100 million to fight the undefeated Mayweather. He then countered with a $15 million purse plus proceeds from the pay-per-view.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto said that if agreed, the fight would happen around the 9/16 date.

No word from Mayweather as of yet.
