Skrilla, the Philadelphia rap star known for the hit song “Doot Doot,” was arrested Saturday night (August 16) in Kensington after an unusual confrontation with local police, the department confirmed. Fox 29 Philadelphia broke the news on Monday (August 19).

Around 11:05 p.m. on August 16, Edwards allegedly fired gel pellets from a toy gun at a police officer, hitting him in the face, neck, and chest. The officer was unharmed.

Edwards was filming a music video at the intersection of Kensington and Allegheny Avenues when the incident occurred. A large crowd had gathered for the shoot, prompting officers to monitor traffic and ensure the area remained safe. Eyewitnesses described the scene as tense yet controlled.

Jon McCann, a local figure known as Philly Captain on YouTube, documented Edwards’ arrest and spoke with FOX 29 about the incident.

“It wasn’t malice, he was joking around, but I guess there’s some things you can’t do,” McCann said.

He credited Edwards’ calm demeanor for preventing further escalation. McCann added that Edwards’ composure helped the crowd remain orderly, noting that the children handling the toy gun had been playing with it for nearly 20 minutes before the incident.

Police confirmed that Edwards was taken into custody without resistance, and the toy gun—loaded with multiple gel pellets—was recovered at the scene. He faces charges including assault on a police officer and related offenses.

The episode highlights the risks associated with filming in public spaces, especially when props resemble weapons. While no one was injured, it highlights the delicate boundary between artistic expression and public safety. Edwards’ legal team has yet to comment, but the music community has been closely watching, given the potential impact on his career.

Skrilla has earned recognition in Philadelphia for his high-energy performances and street-level authenticity. This incident could delay upcoming projects, but fans remain invested in his music and legal journey. The confrontation serves as a cautionary example of how art, public spaces, and law enforcement can collide unpredictably.

The Philadelphia Police Department continues its investigation, and Edwards’ next court date will determine the trajectory of the case. Local residents and fans alike are following developments, highlighting the story’s resonance within the city’s music scene.
