Cardi B announced her new album, Am I the Drama? on September 9 with the kind of theatrical flair that has made her one of hip-hop’s most unpredictable stars.
The Bronx rapper took to social media with a mock-royal decree — “hear ye, hear ye” — before diving into what she described as a major label slight. According to Cardi, Atlantic Records had “done some deduction” to her album’s funding, leaving her, in her own words, with only “a $50 budget.”
The tongue-in-cheek complaint quickly morphed into a plan. Cardi told fans she would personally hit the road to sell copies of the project herself, turning her rollout into a grassroots-style hustle. “So the new check has arrived and been received,” she said. “I have to go on the road and sell these CDs and vinyl myself.”
She then rattled off a chaotic but spirited tour schedule, positioning it as a meet-and-greet run. The dates begin September 19 in Long Island, New York, followed by stops in Easton, Pennsylvania, New York City, Atlanta, Texas, and Long Beach, California. At each location, fans will be able to purchase CDs or vinyl directly from Cardi while meeting her in person.
Her delivery combined humor, satire, and candid frustration, a mix that has long defined her connection with listeners. “I’m just going through a very hard time right now… they want to put me back in the Bronx,” she admitted in the announcement, sounding both exasperated and determined. The comment underscored her stress but also highlighted her drive to keep pushing forward despite challenges.
Cardi framed the tour less as a label-backed promotion than as a plea for fan support. “Just buy a CD or a vinyl,” she urged, emphasizing how crucial her audience remains to her success.
What could have been a grievance became an intimate performance of resilience. For Cardi, turning frustration into comedy and spectacle has always been part of her artistry.
The announcement not only reignited excitement around Am I the Drama? but also reminded fans why she thrives in chaos — by transforming struggle into a rallying cry.
