In 2005, Akon introduced the world to T-Pain, a promising protege with a unique off-pitched auto-tune sound. As T-Pain would eventually become the accomplished superstar we know today, Akon just revealed that the mentor and protege may be working on a collaboration album soon.

While speaking with Bootleg Kev, Akon shared that he and Pain recently discussed creating a popular demanded collab album. “We actually been talking about it,” Kon told Bootleg Kev when the DJ asked why a collab album never happened. “Me and him have been talking about it for a minute.”

The “Locked Up” hitmaker praised T-Pain’s viral Coachella performance. Although Pain has amassed multiple chart-topping accolades, he shared with festival-goers in Indio, California, that it took him 20 years to reach the Coachella stage.

T-Pain was discovered by Kon’s brother Boo in 2004, which led to them signing the Tallahassee, Florida native to Knovict Muizk and releasing his debut single “I’m Sprung” in 2005. Kon and Teddy Pizzle collaborated on memorable songs such as “Bartender,” “You Got Me,” and “Holla Holla.”

T-Pain’s Coachella performance would spark a viral campaign by fans as a candidate for the next NFL Halftime Show performer. The entertainer showed interest in the opportunity in 2024 before it was announced that Super Bowl LIX’s Halftime Show performer would be Kendrick Lamar.

Akon is working on new music and re-recording his classics. He released his latest single, “Never Really Mattered,” in March.

T-Pain made a triumphant return to music in 2023 with his critically acclaimed On Top of The Covers album. He dropped chart-topping collaborations with Glorilla, Megan Trainor, and Chayo Nash in 2024.
