The Weeknd did a posthumous collaboration with the beloved Aaliyah.
The song is called “Poison.” It’s baby girl’s first single for her upcoming posthumous album, Unstoppable. Take a listen and let us know your thoughts. On YouTube, the comment section was turned off.
The track is a slow/upbeat tune with melodic elements. However, online critics weren’t feeling the song at all. Some users felt the song was rushed, others questioned why Aaliyah’s vocals sounded the way it did. Take a look:
Aaliyah, I’m so sorry…🥴

Every time I think about Aaliyah I get pissed off. She was exploited and hyper sexualized her entire life and even worse in death. Let that girl rest peacefully stop remixing her songs.

this Aaliyah track shouldn’t have been released pic.twitter.com/OTeqbkfJ46

Aaliyah’s uncle is trying hard to get a hit. He doesn’t care how rushed it sounds either. Yikes.

I’m just now listening to the new “Poison” record from Aaliyah & The Weeknd, and can someone explain this effect they have over Babygirl’s vocals like this? Quickly. pic.twitter.com/1zfVYaCPbf

I love The Weeknd, but I really don’t want to hear him on a posthumous Aaliyah single. Aaliyah didn’t know him and he doesn’t know Aaliyah’s plans for the song, so it’s obvious this is being done out of greed with 0 respect in it.

Protect Aaliyah at all cost.

No official release date for Unstoppable. It’ll reportedly be a mixture of hip hop and R&B. Billboard points out it’s set to drop sometime in 2022.
