In his first road game in the G League, Bronny James had a breakout performance on Thursday (Dec. 12) night.
Bronny scored a game-high 30 points on 13-of-23 shooting as the South Bay Lakers were defeated by the Valley Suns 106-100 in Tempe, Arizona. He also added three rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block.
Following his strong showing, Colorado Buffaloes star Sanders shared his support for Bronny on X (Formerly Twitter).
“Legendary,” Sanders wrote, tagging James. “Proud of ya.”
In his brief career, Bronny is averaging 14.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists across four G League games overall.
In the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny was selected at No. 55 overall by the Lakers. As a pro, he scored 4 points across 7 games for the Lakers. With the South Bay Lakers in the G League, Bronny will have ample opportunities to develop his game.
In November, the Lakers officially announced that Bronny would split time between the NBA and the G-League for the rest of the 2024-2025 season.
As far as his father, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is taking a leave of absence from the team for personal reasons.
Lakers head coach J.J., Redick informed reporters about James’ status following the team’s practice on Wednesday (Dec.11).
“LeBron is not with the team right now,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said after practice. “He’s out for personal reasons, excused absence.”
On Friday (December 13), the Lakers announced that LeBron would not be playing against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Redick added that James is currently “taking some time” but did not disclose the specifics of his absence.
“In the game, he’s asked for a sub a couple of times because he’s gassed,” Redick said. “For us, we have to be cognizant as we play more and more games, just the cumulative effect of playing a lot of minutes. Sunday, being banged up with the foot thing, it felt like a good opportunity for him to get some rest.”
