Dame Dash has fired back at N.O.R.E. after the rapper-turned-podcast host accused him of failing to pay for work on his movies and soundtracks.
The tension between the two reignited following Dash’s 2020 appearance on Drink Champs, where he claimed N.O.R.E. pressured him to drink Cîroc, a vodka brand previously linked to Diddy. Dash controversially suggested the drinks were spiked “to turn Hip Hop gay.” N.O.R.E. addressed the accusations on a recent episode of his podcast, calling Dash’s comments “corny” and asserting he wouldn’t tolerate disrespect.
“I don’t want to respond with disrespect, but I won’t let anyone disrespect me,” N.O.R.E. said. “The fact that you keep taking these little fake shots, it’s corny, bro. I’ve never been paid for any of the movies or soundtracks I’ve worked on with you. So where’s all this ‘real CEO’ energy you’re always talking about?”
Speaking during a live Q&A with former Roc-A-Fella A&R Big Face Gary on Thursday (November 28), Dash responded sharply. He downplayed N.O.R.E.’s involvement in Paid in Full, the 2002 cult classic Dash co-produced.
“N.O.R.E. was in Paid in Full for, like, four seconds, and I made that part up,” Dash said dismissively. “If he felt some type of way, why wait until he’s on TV to bring it up? That’s ridiculous. When someone shows up in a friend’s project, you don’t expect to charge them.”
Dash went on to claim he had helped N.O.R.E. during the rapper’s struggles with Def Jam in the early 2000s, ensuring he received his rightful marketing budget without asking for compensation.
“When Def Jam was robbing him for his marketing money, I stepped in,” Dash explained. “I knew how many records he sold and how much he was owed. I went up to Def Jam, confronted Lyor [Cohen] and Kevin [Liles], and demanded they give him what he deserved. And they did. Did I ask for a dollar? No.”
Dash also took a jab at N.O.R.E.’s ties with JAY-Z, pointing out that their relationship was never close.
“The only reason I put him in State Property 2 was because Jay didn’t want me to sign him,” Dash revealed. “You’ll never see a picture of N.O.R.E. with Jay or anything Roc-A-Fella-related. I was trying to make him part of the family.”
Dismissing N.O.R.E.’s grievances, Dame Dash added: “If he wanted money, he could’ve asked. I don’t even remember if he got paid. But I know when I helped him with his reggaeton records, I didn’t ask for a dime, and I’m not worried about money now.”
The feud highlights lingering tensions from their shared history, with both sides presenting conflicting narratives of loyalty and respect.
