Deb Antney recently opened up about her time managing Nicki Minaj, sharing a surprising story about being offered millions to walk away from the burgeoning star.
The veteran music executive reflected on the offer during a candid interview, using the moment to emphasize her values and the deep bond she shares with the rapper.
“They offered me $5 million to leave Nicki,” Antney revealed. “I needed that money at the time, but no amount could make me turn my back on her. That’s my child, no matter what. We don’t even have to speak again, but that’s still how I feel.”
Antney also addressed their recent fallout, sparked by her acknowledgment of trying to mediate the infamous feud between Minaj and Lil’ Kim. “It doesn’t matter what she says or does. She can criticize me, talk about me, whatever. I’ll always love her,” Antney said. “Back then, people didn’t even want me on tour with her. They couldn’t believe I was there.”
Reflecting on their dynamic, Antney admitted Minaj holds a unique place in her heart. “She can get away with murder with me,” she confessed. “There are things I want to say to her, but I hold back. She’s fragile to me in a way I can’t explain.”
Antney, who played a crucial role in Minaj’s rise to fame, also shared her thoughts on the current state of mentorship for female rappers. She expressed frustration with what she sees as a lack of guidance for emerging talent. “There are a few women in the game right now I’d love to take under my wing,” she said. “Some of these girls don’t have proper teams, and it’s holding them back from being massive stars.”
When the interviewer brought up Latto, one of Minaj’s known rivals, Antney agreed with enthusiasm. “It makes me angry that older rappers didn’t mentor her,” she said. “I always knew she was destined to take over Atlanta. She had everything it takes to dominate.”
Antney’s passion for nurturing talent and her unwavering loyalty to Minaj underscore her legacy in the industry. While their relationship has had its ups and downs, her words reflect an enduring respect and affection for the superstar she once managed.
