Diddy has filed a defamation lawsuit demanding $100 million from Peacock and others behind Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy.
The mogul’s lawyer, Erica Wolff, accused the filmmakers of knowingly profiting at the cost of truth. Wolff also contended that the documentary promoted “outrageous lies.” “In the purported documentary, Defendants accuse Mr. Combs of horrible crimes, including serial murder and sexual assault of minors – knowing that there is no evidence to support them,” Wolf stated. “In making and broadcasting these falsehoods, among others, Defendants seek only to capitalize on the public’s appetite for scandal without any regard for the truth and at the expense of Mr. Combs’s right to a fair trial. Mr. Combs brings this lawsuit to hold Defendants accountable for the extraordinary damage their reckless statements have caused.”
NBCUniversal Media, Peacock TV, and Ample Entertainment are all listed in the lawsuit. The latter, a production company, was also recently sued for defamation by Chris Brown over ID’s Chris Brown: A History of Violence documentary.
Diddy Sues Over Documentary, Calling Allegations “Unequivocally False”
According to lawsuit documents, Diddy’s attorneys claim Ample notified them last December about a forthcoming documentary. Diddy’s legal team responded by dismissing the allegations as “conspiracy theories” and calling them fundamentally “unequivocally false.” Soon after, the lawsuit states, a trailer for the project surfaced, leading them to demand its removal—an appeal they allege was ignored by both Ample and NBCU.
The legal filing was lodged against the film producers, who allegedly based the documentary on “false statements that Mr. Combs is a serial murderer,” “false accusations about sex with minors,” and “false accusations about the existence of sexually explicit videos of Mr. Combs with minors and celebrities.” Pointing to these claims, the lawsuit contends Diddy was “materially injured.” It seeks a jury trial and follows a separate defamation case his team filed against NewsNation last month.
