The lead actor in Eminem‘s “Stan” video, Devon Sawan, revealed that there was another major star considered for the role: Macaulay Culkin.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Final Destination actor dropped a major bombshell about the iconic music video released nearly 24 years ago and said that directors Dr. Dre and Philip Atwell were considering Culkin, but he wasn’t available.
“Full disclosure: they went out to Macaulay Culkin first, I believe,” Sawa said. “I think that they wanted him, and he wasn’t available, or didn’t want to do it or whatever.” He claims that Dre, who had been a fan of some of his past work, suggested him for the role.
Sawan added, “There happened to be somebody in the casting office that knew somebody who was friends with me, and they called me that way… and it ended up working out pretty good.”
The visual, released in 2000, left an indelible mark on pop culture. In particular, its video offered an updated representation of the parasocial relationship fans can have with their idols.
