Erica Mena has a lot to say after Love and Hip Hop left her out of a conversation about racism.
Earlier today (September 26), MTV announced they would be airing a special titled “Love & Hip Hop: Racism, Colorism, and the Uncomfortable Truth” after the Season 1 finale.
In the show description, it says:
“This roundtable discusses the recent events that aired on the show before MTV decided to stop filming with Erica Mena. International colorism expert Dr. Sarah L. Webb, founder and owner of Colorism Healing, a leader in raising awareness, shifting attitudes, and taking action, leads an open dialogue that features Spice, Yandy, Joc, Scrappy, Sierra, Amy, and a special appearance from Rasheeda sharing their experiences.”
The discussion comes after Erica was fired from the show after calling her cast mate a racial slur. However, Erica was not invited.
Erica’s rep told Radar Online, “It is very disappointing Erica was not included in the discussion about the incident that occurred while filming the show and that the network chose to silence her voice.”
Erica also posted a lengthy response online. She said initially, the network didn’t have a problem with her behavior. It was only until they received negative backlash online she was fired. Take a look:
Erica caught major heat after calling her cast mate, Spice, a racist slur.
While some of the cast mates were out eating, Spice and Erica got into an argument. Spice accused Mena of “acting like she’s the first woman to be divorced” and told her that her son own doesn’t like her. Then, Erica reacted by flipping a table and calling Spice a “blue monkey” during the heated argument.
Earlier in the episode, Erica told Spice she should have died while she battled a health issue. People reports that Erica used racial slurs in the past. For example, in 2015 she called Johnni Blaze a “black monkey.”
At the time, the network posted a statement and said as a result, Erica won’t be returning to the show. It read:
“The Love & Hip Hop franchise has never shied away from hard conversations in our community. Working hand-in-hand with our partners, viewers will see the impact of Erica Mena’s remarks play out in the final three episodes of the season. Effective immediately, she will not appear in the next season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.”
