Fetty Wap has clarified rumors, shutting down false reports about his prison release. The rapper swiftly refuted claims circulating on social media this week. In May 2023, Fetty Wap was handed a six-year sentence for his involvement in a Long Island drug operation.
However, this week, rumors swirled about his early release, which the New Jersey rapper swiftly addressed. Fetty reshared a post on Instagram Story. It was from someone who looks like family, writing, “He’s not out yet. @fettywap1738 free you brother I love you!” The Bureau of Prisons lists Fetty’s scheduled release for March 13, 2027.
Fetty Wap Reflects on Past Mistakes, Embraces Accountability Amid Legal Struggles
Fetty Wap admitted to charges of conspiring to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine. Prosecutors pushed for an extended sentence, accusing him of leveraging his fame to glorify the drug trade while profiting millions from his music following his rise to stardom in 2015. He was apprehended on federal drug charges at Citi Field in October 2021, just as he prepared to perform at New York’s Rolling Loud Festival.
In a November 2023 interview with XXL, Fetty acknowledged that he could have approached his career with greater focus. The rapper stated, “Some of the things I think about really is being home.” “I take accountability for everything I did. I don’t really be blaming nobody for nothing. It ain’t nobody else fault that I’m here.” He continued, “I just reflect on some of the shit I did in the last few years, how I feel like I coulda took music a lot more serious than I did. And like just keep it that route, instead of this route. I’m just grateful that I’m still here; I’m still breathing. I’m able to see some light at the end of the tunnel.”
Despite facing a lengthy sentence that will keep him incarcerated for more than five years and likely impede his career, he remains grateful, especially when considering the circumstances of others in his situation. He said, “I met a lot of genuine people in here. So, you know, they all like, ‘Yo, bro, when you get out, man, take that serious, man. Stop fuckin’ around with your blessings before you end up losing it for good.’ So, you know that’s one of the things that I reflect on — really taking music serious and going places.”
