Flavor Flav recently performed the “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks basketball game.
On Monday (Oct. 30), the former Public Enemy rapper had a conversation with TMZ abouthow the moment came about. “It came to be by me talking to the Milwaukee Bucks‘ president, Peter Feigin,” he explained. “He gave me the opportunity to be able to sing the national anthem at the Bucks game and, hey, I took advantage of the opportunity. It’s something I always wanted to do, so he granted me the opportunity to do it, and I jumped on it and knocked it out the box.”
“I have family in the United States military, you know what I’m saying? [They] fought in World War II. Not only that, but my dad was even in the United States Army back in the day,” Flavor Flav added. “The family members that I had in the military, some of them didn’t come back alive, but they believed in what they were fighting for. They were fighting for this country that they helped to build… I did that in honor for my family and also for a lot of other people’s families that fought for this country.”
