Over the weekend, GloRilla found herself in the political crossfire while promoting her debut album during election season.
One critic on Twitter voiced their frustration, writing, “Y’all listening to GloRilla while our country is at stake! Put your phone down and go register to vote! Don’t let social media distract you. Do your research!”
GloRilla, not one to stay silent, shot back with a quick response: “[What the f**k]? How [did] I get in it?”
While the Memphis rapper hasn’t endorsed a candidate like her “Wanna Be” collaborator Megan Thee Stallion, she did cross paths with Biden and Harris earlier this year. The encounter took place during a Women’s History Month reception at the White House, where GloRilla learned that Biden was familiar with her track “Yeah Glo!” In a playful exchange captured on her Instagram, GloRilla exclaimed, “Yeah, Joe!” to which the President humorously corrected her, “Well, not ‘Joe.’ Yeah you!”
Even her mother chimed in on the unforgettable moment, posting on Instagram, “Your gift is making room for you and placing you in the presence of kings, or in your day, presidents! Girl, you’ve definitely given me bragging rights!”
As the political chatter swirls, GloRilla remains focused on the release of her debut album GLORIOUS, set to drop on October 11. The 15-track project features the Rihanna-approved single “TGIF” and the newly released “Hollon,” which hit streaming platforms on Friday (Sept. 20).
This album follows her previous release, Ehhthang Ehhthang, from earlier this year in April, marking a prolific year for the CMG artist. On her latest track, GloRilla doesn’t hold back, delivering fierce bars like, “H**, you must not know what you just started / Me and my b*tches go gnarly / Give a f*ck about this party.”
Her unapologetic energy continues to fuel her meteoric rise, as she blends raw, fearless lyrics with undeniable star power. She was awarded the Key to the City of Memphis earlier this month.
Glo is one of the highest-nominated female acts of the upcoming 2024 BET Hip-Hop Awards in Las Vegas next month.
